Pope Leo XIV
We joyfully announce that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago has been elected as the 267th pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV. His election marks a historic moment as he becomes the first American-born pontiff. A member of the Augustinian order, Pope Leo XIV has served as a missionary in Peru and was recently the head of the Vatican's Dicastery for Bishops. His papal name honors Pope Leo XIII, known for his advocacy of social justice. In his first address, Pope Leo XIV emphasized peace and unity, calling the Church to be a "beacon that illuminates the dark nights of this world.
Let us keep Pope Leo XIV in our prayers as he begins his papacy, guiding the Church with compassion and wisdom.
